The Team
Chad Mirkin
Founder
Dr. Chad A. Mirkin is the Director of the International Institute for Nanotechnology and the George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and Medicine. He is one of only 19 scientists, engineers and medical doctors in the world, and the only chemist, to be elected into all three branches of the US National Academies. He is the author of over 600 manuscripts and over 900 patent applications worldwide (262 issued). Mirkin has been a co-founder of multiple startup companies, including Nanosphere, Inc., AuraSense, LLC, and Exicure, LLC.
Andrey Ivankin
Co-Founder
Dr. Andrey Ivankin is an entrepreneur, scientist, and engineer attacking some of the world’s biggest challenges by bringing new transformative tools and technologies to the nanoworld. He led the development of award-winning desktop nanofabrication tools, TERA-Fabs, and applications thereof. TERA-Fabs are now being used by researchers around the world for applications in bioengineering, microfluidics, sensing, nanoelectronics, soft microrobotics, and many more. Prior to that, Andrey pushed the limits of DNA sequencing and epigenetic screening to the single molecule level using nanopore technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Jared Magoline
Director, Sales & Business Development
Mr. Jared Magoline holds a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Biology from Valparaiso University and was one of the original scientists involved in developing TERA-print’s award-winning, TERA-Fab technology. He now leads the sales, marketing, and business development arms of TERA-print where he identifies and pursues opportunities to extend the reach of the Company. This includes investigating new application spaces, developing targeted sales and marketing strategies, and working alongside the Company’s technical team to deploy relevant tools and technologies.
Kyle Justus
Research Scientist
Dr. Kyle Justus holds a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. from Michigan State University, both in Mechanical Engineering, as well as postdoctoral experience in Biochemistry at Stanford University. Prior to joining TERA-print, Kyle developed a broad set of technical skills through academic research in cellular mechanics, soft robotics, microfluidic organ-on-a-chip systems, genetic engineering and microfabrication. Kyle is working to expand biological applications of TERA-print’s technology in the realm of 3D bioprinting of multicellular systems and organoids.
Shaowei Ding
Research Scientist
Dr. Shaowei Ding received her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering with a concurrent M.S. degree in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering from Iowa State University. She brings a strong expertise in optical and electrical biosensing. Prior to joining TERA-print, Shaowei pushed the limits of electrochemical biomarker detection through the development of novel ultra-sensitive interdigitated electrode arrays. She is also well-versed in biology, surface chemistry, biofunctionalization, inkjet printing, materials characterization and statistical analysis. Shaowei explores new and innovative uses of the TERA-print technology in applications pertained to biology, chemistry, physics, and materials science.
Cody Smith
Research Scientist
Mr. Cody Smith holds a M.S. and B.S. degree in Chemistry from Northeastern Illinois University. Prior to joining TERA-print, Cody gained 6+ years of experience in the drug development and biotechnology industries, where he became an expert in DNA synthesis, HPLC method development, and large scale sterile liquid compounding. Cody is leveraging this experience to expand the Company’s capabilities in oligonucleotide synthesis, microfluidic device development, and nanoscale device prototyping.
William Hutson
Instrument Engineer
Dr. William Hutson holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northwestern University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago. He is a true expert in optics and played a key role in the development and construction of a series of novel optical spectroscopic instruments. These tools enabled the collection of spectra with an unprecedented resolution, uncovering obscured physics of coupled electron and nuclear motion. William is in charge of engineering new instrument methodologies and expanding the reach and scope of the research opportunities available through the TERA-Fab E series.
Jeremy Lutz
Instrument Engineer
Mr. Jeremy Lutz holds a B.S. degree in Engineering and Physics from Brown University. He has a background in electro-optic systems studying the interactions of chiral molecules and rectified photo-currents in plasmonic systems. This research interrogated the capabilities of plasmonic thin films for detecting the handedness of chiral molecules in solution, a technology that is critical in many biomedical applications. He is now assisting in expanding the functionality and high area throughput performance of the TERA-Fab E-series.
